To mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s First Folio Walker Books, in association with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, has published a new edition of the folio, made accessible for children. Enter stage left – ‘Shakespeare’s First Folio, All the Plays – A Children’s Edition’. It is one of a kind: the first ever illustrated children’s edition of the First Folio. Easy for children to digest, all 36 plays have been abridged so that small groups can perform them in around 20 minutes.
Edited by Dr Anjna Chouhan and illustrated by Emily Sutton, the book is visually stunning, with 150 watercolour drawings. You can buy a copy of the book here or by clicking the Buy This Book button below.
Incy met the lovely Dr Anjna Chouhan at the library launch of the book, and spoke to Anjna about the book – Incy’s first introduction to Shakespeare. Dr Anjna Chouhan was an in-house scholar at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust for over a decade, during which time she adapted Shakespeare for younger audiences. She hosts her own podcast called Shakespeare’s Pants.

Incy also met illustrator Emily Sutton who is based on York and has illustrated works including The Tale of the Castle Mice by Michael Bond. Emily brought along her cute dog wearing a Shakespearian ruff around his neck! Incy thought he was so cute and he fit in well with the lady in Tudor dress.

Next, Incy took part in a Tudor dance, played games, and listened to some Shakespeare storytelling. Incy then tried her hand at writing Shakespeare herself. It was a wonderful day for children at the library and a fun introduction to Shakespeare. You can get your copy of the book in bookshops and libraries now.
